Was held on Wednesday, 13th October 2004.
The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, Hampshire.
Business Risk Management. The moral and financial effects.
The aim of the Conference is to provide business leaders
and decision-makers with an analysis of current and future
considerations that will stimulate discussion and action in
both the domestic and international arena.
- Compliance .v. Non-compliance do the difficulties and
effects make it worth the risk?
- Systems and Success for Health, Safety and the Environment.
- The effects of legislation and litigation.

The Conference also included the biennial Awards Ceremony for The Solent Safety Award, Jack Bennett Trophy and Grant McMillan Trophy. The 2004 conference awards received a number of interesting and imaginative submissions. Successful applications came from Portsmouth City Council, Flagship Training Limited, Park Community School, Warblington School and Bidbury Junior School.

The Solent Safety Award.
The Solent Safety Award was conceived by the late Philip
Coutts when he was chairman of the group during the early
1980s, and is dedicated to his memory. This was the
first award of its kind to be introduced specifically for
companies in the Greater Portsmouth area which demonstrated
commitment to the principles of health and safety at work.

The Jack Bennett Trophy.
The Jack Bennett Trophy is dedicated to the memory of the
late Jack Bennett who was not only a founder member of the
group, but also held many of its Executive Officer posts.
Jack is particularly remembered for his tireless effort in
organising many of the groups successful conferences.

The
Grant McMillan Trophy.
Surgeon Commodore Grant McMillan QHP, RN is a senior and
respected consultant and Professor of Occupational Medicine.
As the immediate past President of the group, he has made
significant contributions to the leadership and direction
of the group during his four-year presidency. This trophy
is dedicated in recognition of his contribution in the field
of occupational health and safety, and his commitment to the
Hampshire Health, Safety & Environment Group. More>>
